ATICRM/CMWS Engineering Support

Under AMCOM Omnibus 2000 and EXPRESS Delivery Orders, Avion has provided ongoing engineering support to the Product Director, Aircraft Survivability Equipment (PD ASE), a division of the Program Executive Office (PEO) - Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors (IEWS). We provide engineering expertise, aircraft systems integration, airworthiness qualification and testing support for the integration of the ALQ-212 Advanced Threat Infrared Countermeasures/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning System (ATIRCM/CMWS) both at the box level and as systems integrated on Army Aviation rotary and fixed wing platforms. Platforms supported include Apache Attack, Cargo, and Utility Helicopters, as well as the C-12, RC-12, and UC-35 Fixed Wing Aircraft. Avion provides engineering support for ATIRCM/CMWS system performance improvement, SOF and Qualification Testing, Qualification Testing oversight, EMI/EMC testing, Vibration Analysis, Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO), Environmental Stress Screening, Flight Test Plan review, System to Segment Interface Control Specification review, Critical Item Specifications and subcontractor PDR and CDR review.

Our support includes close interface with the AED Systems Integration and Mission Equipment Divisions to determine requirements for airworthiness releases (AWR) for the CH-47D/F, MH-47E/G, MH-60K, UH-60A/L/M, HH-60L/M MEDEVAC, AH-64D, C-12R/U and RC-12K.  Avion provides electronic warfare (EW) flight test support test throughout the developmental and operational test cycles, providing input to testing philosophy, approach, concept, plan and reports. We provide input and recommendations in the design of testing to successfully meet the requirements set forth in AED Airworthiness Qualification Plans (AQP), Contractor Flight Releases (CFR), Airworthiness Releases (AWRs), Interim Statements of Airworthiness Qualification (ISAQ) and Statements of Airworthiness Qualification (SAQ). Avion provides technical positions on airworthiness issues for all aircraft systems, related equipment, and software that have been altered/modified from standard configuration.  Avion serves as key interface point for PD ASE, AED, the ATIRCM/CMWS vendor, Redstone Technical Test Center (RTTC) and the US Army Technical Evaluation Center (ATEC) for the AWR process.

Avion has provided key recommendations for the integration of the Suite of Integrated Infrared Countermeasures (SIIRFC) and Suite of Integrated Radio Frequency Countermeasures (SIRFC) systems on the AH-64D.  Additionally, Avion is actively involved in determining feasibility & requirements of modifying the ATIRCM/CMWS system performance specification for EMI, Operating Temperature, and Vibration performance. Avion has supported the successful integration of AAR-57 CMWS and ALQ-212 Improved Countermeasures Dispenser (ICMD) onto the Utility, Cargo, Apache, and Army Fixed Wing platforms as part of the CMWS Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) program.  We have supported prototype efforts for integration of the ALQ-212/AAR-57 ATIRCM/CMWS system onto the Block III Apache helicopter. We also support contracting tasks such as participating in the Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Alpha Contracting process at the ATIRCM/CMWS vendor. We coordinate with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) and the Technology Applications Program Office (TAPO) regarding AWR needs for both the MH-47E/G and MH-60K. We have supported the successful integration of the Northrop-Grumman AN/AAQ-24 Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) System on the Army C-37 platform.Avion has played an integral engineering role for the PD ASE by securing AWRs for multiple platform ATIRCM/CMWS Flight Tests and for Fielding of CMWS/ICMD. Avion has assisted AED in the analysis and test planning to overcome previous system failures of EMI tests including CE101, CE102 and RE102, providing critical support for the accelerated effort in the qualification of the CMWS post OEF and OIF actions. Since 2004, Avion personnel have coordinated eighty testing and fielding AWRs for PD ASE.
